The door-bell camera surveillance company Ring has partnered with more than 400 police forces, dubbing it the “new neighborhood watch.”

Privacy and security experts warn what could happen in the future endeavors of the partnership. Although camera owners have the right to deny the program, current resident informants can provide access to Internet-connected devices when requested by officers.

Andrew Guthrie Ferguson, law professor, explains, “If the police demanded every citizen put a camera at their door and give officers access to it, we might all recoil.”
