AT&T acquired DirecTV in 2015 for $49B but has more recently considered[ parting ways ](https://www.wsj.com/articles/at-t-explores-parting-ways-with-directv-11568841544)with the company. 

Some executives argue that its diversified media channels including paid television and wireless phones position the company in a way to be uniquely successful amongst other media giants.
