Court Deems Turkey’s Wikipedia Ban Unconstitutional

Turkey banned Wikipedia in 2017 because the site would not remove specific pages with information the government felt was offensive. 

A recent court ruling in favor of removing the ban is a victory for its country’s free speech activists. 

Yaman Akedeniz, law professor at Istanbul Bilgi University says, “This is to avoid the European court issuing a judgment prior to the Constitutional Court issuing its judgment. That would have been detrimental to Turkey.”
