Facebook is funding $2 million for independent social science research on disinformation and polarization in relation to social media.
This is part of its ‘2020 Foundational Integrity Research’ and aims to provide a further understanding of how social platforms should govern their content.
Funda Kivran-Swaine, leader of civic and health integrity research at Facebook, explains “Our collaboration with academic partners in the past has substantially contributed to our understanding of the fundamental challenges and opportunities facing society in relation to communication technology. We look forward to receiving proposals from experts in this space.”
