Facebook’s Messenger Kids Demonstrates Design Mishap

Facebook’s Messenger Kids is a chat application where children cannot message users that parents do not approve of. Through a loophole, the group chat setting allowed children to enter unapproved chats with strangers.

Legal actions could potentially arise as the app is designed for children under the age of 13. Some groups accused Messenger Kids of violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

“We recently notified some parents of Messenger Kids account users about a technical error that we detected affecting a small number of group chats,” a Facebook representative said.
