German Calas Jr, a Floridian businessman, was recently struck down by the FTC for ‘fake indicators of social media influence’ resulting in a $2.5M fine.

Devumi, the company Calas headed, was in a heated New York Times investigation about his questionable business practices. The result of this case may set the further precedent for the ethical use of social media engagement practices.
