In 2010, Google’s Street View was recording more data than anticipated and gathered information that affected millions of people across the globe. The class-action lawsuit was recently settled for $13M.
Under the Wiretap Act, Google was liable for $10,000 per occurrence. As a leading tech giant, some consumers believe the settlement was minimal in comparison to the value of private data breached.
"While most of the data is fragmentary, in some instances entire emails and URLs were captured, as well as passwords," Alan Eustace, senior VP for engineering and research said.
