The merger between Gatehouse Media and Gannett will make [Gannett the largest publisher in the United States. ](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/14/business/media/gannett-gatehouse-media-merger.html)

** **More than 550 newspapers across the country will now have the same owner, which will save the two companies up to $300 million a year. 

**Michael Reed, head of Gannett, said **“Together, we will be stronger with a more viable path to growth for our shareholders and employees, while sustaining journalism in hundreds of markets across the country.”
