NPR, like many other media outlets, relies on a certain percentage of federal funding to produce stories and keep the public informed. President Trump tweeted his disapproval for the organization, which led to an increase in donations to the outlet

Trump urged to cut funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting which would remove all federal funding to the organization by 2023.

Mike Risken, NPR Vice President, explains “Elimination of federal funding would result in fewer programs, less journalism — especially local journalism — and, eventually, the loss of public radio stations, particularly in rural and economically distressed communities. We are fully engaged with policymakers to ensure a complete understanding of federal funding and its importance to our stations and the public media system.”
