Social and tech giants rival Pakistan for censorship rules

Pakistan recently released a set of censorship rules for online content and demanded that social giants like Facebook, Twitter and Google comply with the new rules or face penalties. 

The three came together in rebellion and threatened to leave the country, abandoning its 70 million Internet users. 

Usama Khilji, director of Bolo Bhi, explains “Because Pakistan does not have any law of data protection, international Internet firms are reluctant to comply with the rules.”
