Social Media Crash Leads to Financial Implications for Advertisers

A few weeks ago, Facebook and Instagram crashed, which lead to trending topics about images not properly loading. Consumer effects were minuscule in comparison to advertisers losing revenue on sponsored posts.

Many websites and social platforms gain revenue from paid advertisements and sponsored posts. Companies lose potential profits when images or sites aren’t fully functioning, which could lead to companies pulling out from using social media as advertisement. 

Julian Vigo, an independent scholar in anthropology, technology, and political philosophy explains, “And since March’s last major Facebook outage, companies like Wonghaus Ventures reported $10,000 in losses, as well as millions of other companies, were negatively affected by the loss of revenue and advertising potential.”
