Tech giants Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google have pledged over $4.5 billion to help ease the housing crisis they helped to create. Software engineers at Facebook and Apple make 40% more than the national average yet, in the Bay Area, where these companies are located, has among the highest percentage of homelessness, and is one of the least affordable places to live in the U.S.
Tamara Mitchell, a volunteer at San Francisco’s Coalition on Homelessness said, “It kind of feels like you’re being pushed out of your own home.”
