Economic Strains Keep Millennials Out of the Housing Market

Burdensome student loans, high rent and increasing home prices are forcing millennials to remain renters much longer than previous generations. The median age of a homeowner today is 46, the oldest since the National Association of Realtors began tracking this in 1981. This has repercussions for the entire economy.

According to Sam Khater, chief economist at Freddie Mac, “Lower home ownership for young adults means lower economic growth”.
