Rich Barton, co-founder and CEO of Zillow, the home listing and advertising platform, explained why the company has entered the[ competitive iBuying market](https://therealdeal.com/2019/10/08/not-betting-on-ibuying-would-be-an-existential-threat-zillow-ceo/). Earlier this year, Zillow raised $1.1 billion to help fund this effort.

During an interview with the publication The Information, Barton said iBuying is an “existential threat because if it works and we don’t do it we get displaced in the marketplace, theoretically.”
