Tools to address sustainability are needed to address toxic emissions from the healthcare industry. Areas that need to be addressed are transportation, utilization, disposal, manufacturing, and packaging among others.

The industry most responsible for responding to the negative impacts of climate change and pollution is responsible for a large percentage of carbon emissions and harmful non-greenhouse air pollutants.

"The healthcare industry is responsible for responding to the many of the most dangerous effects of pollution and climate change, and yet it is a significant source of greenhouse gases and other deadly environmental emissions itself," said Jodi Sherman, M.D, who is also an associate professor of epidemiology in environmental health sciences at the Yale School of Public Health.
