Studies show that 66.67% of visits to the emergency room could be treated in a lower-cost primary care setting, significantly reducing costs to hospital systems. Expansion of healthcare coverage decreases the likelihood that patients seek emergency room care for less severe conditions. 

An estimated 18 million emergency room visits could be eliminated for hospital systems by leveraging primary care providers and expanding healthcare coverage.
