10-Year Outlook for Rotorcraft Sales to Surpass $200 Billion

According to Forecast International, “more than 18,000 rotorcraft worth approximately $220.7 billion” will be delivered over the next 10 years in both civil and military markets.  Lockheed Martin is expected to collect more than 19% of the dollar value of that market with military sales. Airbus leads in the projected number of civil aircraft sold at more than 19%, or close to 3,500 aircraft to be delivered.

The civil sector will increase purchases for search and rescue, law enforcement, corporate, and utility aircraft. While emergency medical service (EMS) helicopters may see increased sales in Asia, EMS sales in the United States are expected to decline.

Electrically powered rotorcraft (eVTOL) are included in the forecast, however, they are not expected to begin to achieve their full potential until late in the ten-year forecast, and thus, may represent only a small fraction of the total outlook for both numbers and value of aircraft sold.
