Two days before Christmas, Boeing announced that Dennis Muilenburg was stepping down as Boeing CEO, and will be replaced by David Calhoun effective January 24. Boeing CFO Greg Smith will serve as interim CEO until then.
Boeing’s board of directors “decided that a change in leadership” was required to regain public trust in the company.
Boeing’s non-executive chairman of the board, Lawrence Kellner said, “Dave has deep industry experience and a proven track record of strong leadership, and he recognizes the challenges we must confront. The board and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the Boeing team to ensure that today marks a new way forward for our company.”
Business crisis expert Ronn Torossian, CEO 5W PR, a public relations agency, said, “The multiple Boeing crashes over the past year have caused panic among travelers and the aviation industry” and that Boeing is already falling behind on its opportunity to regain lost public trust, and now the clock is ticking.
