Global Airline Orders up, Deliveries Down

According to the UK aerospace industry group ADS, 425 aircraft orders were booked in October across all airline manufactures worldwide—some three times the orders booked in October 2018. Orders were led by Asian markets and included more than 400 single-aisle airliners.

According to Paul Everitt, chief executive of ADS, “The big increase in orders seen in October signals a return of confidence to the market as airlines invest in modern, technologically advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft.”

He added, “While deliveries this year remain behind original predictions, we expect a return to record production rates in years ahead as manufacturers work to fulfill the more than 14,000 aircraft orders now placed.”

October’s orders suggest that recent troubles with the Boeing 737 Max and production problems with the Airbus A320neo have not damped the overall market for airliners.

Still, deliveries are running behind schedule, down some 30 percent from October of 2018.
