Iran’s Petroleum Ministry is developing a supergiant natural gas field on its border with Qatar.

Iran’s South Pars’ non-associated natural gas field is a lynchpin in the nation’s strategy to expand natural gas production to at least one billion cubic meters per day. South Pars already accounts for the majority if the country’s natural gas production and the Petroleum Ministry intends to scale up as quickly as possible. The final phase of the project is expected to be commissioned in 2020, and Iran hopes it will help the nation become a major player in the global natural gas market.
