DNV GL, a technical consultancy that serves the energy industry, has reported a significant growth in support for decarbonization campaigns among senior oil and gas professionals.

In a statement dated January 21, the Norway-based group reported that 71% of the industry professionals surveyed were expecting their companies to increase or maintain current levels of investment in decarbonization projects. This represents a dramatic rise on the figure of 54% registered in 2019, it said.

The survey also showed that 66% of oil and gas professionals were confident of growth in the sector in 2020, down from the previous year’s figure of 76%, DNV GL said. Survey participants employed by companies that are actively investing in decarbonization and efficiency expressed the highest levels of optimism, it added.

“Our research shows that the oil and gas industry has placed decarbonization at the center of its agenda, and it will remain a priority despite uncertainty from volatile market conditions and stalling expectations for industry growth in 2020,” commented Liv A. Hovem, the CEO of DNV GL.
