CPC Corp., the national oil company of Taiwan, has taken delivery of its first carbon-neutral shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The 64,000-ton cargo arrived at the Yung-An LNG import terminal in Kaohsiung on March 4, according to Taiwan Today.

The newspaper reported on March 5 that CPC had purchased the LNG from Shell Eastern Trading Pte Ltd., a Singapore-based subsidiary of Royal Dutch/Shell. It noted that Shell Eastern Trading had expressed strong support for the carbon-neutral arrangement and was willing to discuss similar deals with other customers that want to reduce harmful emissions.

CPC has used independently verified and nature-based credits to offset the 240,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide generated by the LNG shipment. It sourced these credits from multiple ecosystem restoration initiatives backed by UN REDD, the United Nations Program on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation.
