Mozilla has followed up the enhanced tracking protection (ETP) feature it launched in June by switching enhanced privacy protections to default in Firefox v69.0.

Firefox continues to build browsing privacy protections designed to protect users from ad profiling, cryptomining, and other tracking activities that commonly occur in the background of unprotected browsers. Users must still opt-in to advanced privacy protections such as browser fingerprint blocking and other tracking prevention technologies.

Mozilla says the new update represents a “milestone” and “a major step in our multi-year effort to bring stronger, usable privacy protections to everyone using Firefox.” According to the company, “Currently over 20% of Firefox users have Enhanced Tracking Protection on. With today’s release, we expect to provide protection for 100% of our users by default.”
