New York State to build 1.7 gigawatts of offshore wind within the next five years to help meet environmental benchmarks in the Green New Deal.

New York just made the largest investment in offshore wind America has seen to date by ordering two offshore wind powerplants. The 880-megawatt Sunrise Wind project will help power Long Island, and the 816-megawatt Empire Wind project will feed New York City directly. Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2024.

Governor Cuomo has called New York’s Green New Deal “The most aggressive climate law in the United States of America." As Gov. Cuomo explained, "Long Island needs that power, and it needs it today."
