The MayGen tidal stream array sent over 13.8-gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity to the Scottish electrical grid last year.
The MayGen plant, which consists of four 1.5-megawatt (MW) turbines, doubled its operating production between 2018 and 2019, setting a new production record for this cutting-edge renewable energy technology. Tidal energy facilities generate electricity from the movement of waves and tides in the ocean. New utility-scale tidal energy projects are planned for construction in Nova Scotia, Canada with completion expected in 2023.
