The Swedish startup uses artificial intelligence (AI) and drones to inspect electrical power lines to support “smart” infrastructure.
Skyqraft uses unmanned aircraft equipped with AI to perform detailed inspections of remote electrical equipment. Currently, powerlines are inspected by teams in helicopters, which can be inaccurate and unsafe. The company has secured over a half-billion in early-round funding and has already secured a contract with its first customer.
“Power-line inspections most importantly are not environmentally friendly, very costly and unsafe with the use of helicopters and people,” Skyqraft co-founder and CMO Sakina Turabali tells TechCrunch. “We provide smart infrastructure inspections using unmanned airplanes by gathering images and 360 videos and feeding that data into a machine learning system that automatically detects any risk to the power-lines”.
