Former video game market leader Atari is launching a comeback into the market with a new console and thousands of games.
The Atari VCS console coming early 2020 is a modern game console designed to play classic retro games. Atari maintains a library of over 2,000 licensed titles, at the company will launch the console with an app that will include the largest collection of Atari Games on-demand available anywhere. The console runs on Linux and will sell for $250 at release.
“We’ve been working on this for a while with a number of different initiatives for content,” said Atari CEO Michael Arzt. “We have made a splash about the capabilities of our sandbox mode, which is leveraging the side of the box that is a multimedia PC. This is the first of several planned announcements, and this is about content that sits inside the walled garden.”
