Brands and Fans React on Social Media to the death of Planter’s Mascot, Mr. Peanut

In a Superbowl pregame commercial that surfaced the Internet this week, Planter’s revealed that Mr. Peanut, its mascot, passed away as he sacrificed himself to save two men.

Brands and fans took to social media to mourn the loss of the food icon with the hashtag #RIPeanut. Planters is expected to air another advertisement during the game that shows Mr. Peanut’s funeral. 

@MrPeanut on Twitter states, "It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Mr. Peanut has died at 104. In the ultimate selfless act, he sacrificed himself to save his friends when they needed him most. Please pay your respects with #RIPeanut”
