A recent IDTechEx report titled “Manned Electric Aircraft 2020-2030” has focused on the realities of developing electric power systems for aircraft, suggesting that many start-up vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) efforts are trying to do too much too fast.
IDTechEx CEO Raghu Das has concerns about most of the 100 or so developers of vertical takeoff and landing VTOL pure electric aircraft. He believes “pure electric VTOL will eventually be a great success.” But he adds, that there “are great challenges, too.”
“That includes batteries currently unable to provide long enough endurance for good margins of safety, particularly over a city, radical changes needed to air traffic control, to regulations and more.”
