Up to 70% of occupational violence occurs in healthcare settings, a new study has shown. This abuse and disruption of the workplace increases the costs for companies through attrition, worker’s compensation claims, branding and legal exposure. To respond to this increased incidence, healthcare companies will need to increase training significantly to respond to increased regulatory and prevention requirements.

Training on workplace violence prevention will increase by 20% over the next three years in response to the high rate of occupational violence in the healthcare sector.

“We are experiencing an unprecedented time of workplace violence in healthcare,” said Susan Driscoll, CPI President. “Our research indicated the need to help nurses and other healthcare employees at-risk for abuse. By providing workers with the skills to address potential workplace violence early on, we can help reduce the number and severity of workplace violence incidents.”
