U.S. oil production rose to 12.66 million barrels per day (bpd) in the month of October, according to data published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on December 31. This is the highest monthly average ever recorded, Reuters noted on the same day.
Two states accounted for more than half of total production in October, the EIA data showed. Texas extracted 5.27 million bpd, or about 41.6% of domestic output, while North Dakota contributed 1.47 million bpd, or about 11.6%.
U.S. oil exports were also up in October, reaching 3.38 million bpd. This marks a 9.4% increase on the September figure of 3.09 million bpd.
The EIA data also showed that natural gas output in the lower 48 U.S. states rose to a record high of 106.08 billion cubic feet (bcf) per day in October. This is up by around 0.9% on September, when gas production averaged 105.09 bcf per day.
